I LOVE Rufus Wainwright. I think he has the most amazing voice and if he wasn't gay I swear we would be married...Okay I know he has never met me and I am already married he's gay...hello..never going to happen anyway so I can fantasize out loud all I want
Anyway I had a ticket to go to Rufus tonight. I have been looking forward to this concert for about three months. I had a babysitter lined up (hubby was out of town), a great outfit picked out in case Rufus spotted me in the crowd, and a friend coming in from Cincinnati to go with me.
Low and behold a half hour before I was supposed to leave the lights went out. The electricity in my neighborhood...gone!
I would have thought it was a small little power surge and no worries, but this was the second time today it happened. The first time the lights went out today it lasted for five hours.
Now I couldn't ask the babysitter to hang with my daughter in the dark with a flashlight. I mean really, that would be so not cool. I also couldn't miss Rufus. You may be thinking selfish mommy, but it's more like I have a nine month old and haven't gotten out of the house in forever.
So I took my daughter to her first concert, about ten years earlier then I was planning on taking her to a concert, but sometimes you just can't control these things.
The best part about the whole story is that she loved it! She was rockin out like crazy, bouncing up and down, singing with Rufus as he paid tribute to Judy Garland. She was drumming, and jumping. I think it was one of the best nights of her life.
We couldn't stay for the whole show, a baby is going to melt at 10:30 no matter what you do, but as we were walking out with baby in hotsling what did we see? Another baby being worn by another mommy. There was a baby named Dove who was almost one hanging in a ring sling. I wasn't the only mommy out there taking her daughter to see Rufus....
